Three Factors that Affect the Cost of Designer Glasses
Finding the right pair of designer glasses can be difficult. Consumers can choose from a wide selection of frame shapes, styles, and colors. In addition, there are many specialty lens options to improve your vision.
At Gordon Wong Eye Designs & Optometry in La Jolla, CA, Dr. Gordon C. Wong, Dr. Wildon C. Wong, and our staff can help patients select designer eyewear that enhances their vision, looks great, and protects their eyes. In this blog post, we discuss three factors that affect the cost of designer glasses, and we offer some tips on how you can find designer eyewear for less.
1. The Frames
The first thing that will factor into the overall cost of your prescription designer glasses is the cost of the frames themselves. We offer a number of designer eyewear brands, all of which have different price points.
The designer eyewear brands we carry include:
- Calvin Klein®
- Emporio Armani
- Kate Spade
- Maui Jim
- Michael Kors®
- Mont Blanc™
- MYKITA®
- Oakley®
- Ray-Ban®
- Tiffany & Co.
2. Prescription Lenses
If you rely on glasses to see clearly, then you will need frames that can accommodate prescription lenses. Adding prescription lenses to designer frames does result in an additional cost.
Once you choose your designer eyewear, our onsite lab technicians will cut and secure your prescriptions lenses to your new frames. Our lab uses the Santinelli® optical lens edger, which offers precise cuts and grooves so your lenses stay firmly in your frames. It also polishes the lenses for a smooth and safe finish.
3. Specialty Lenses
Specialty lenses are also available at our optical shop in La Jolla, and these can also affect the overall cost of your designer glasses.
For example, in addition to designer glasses, we can provide you with designer sunglasses by using a different type of lens with your prescription.
We also offer anti-glare, or polarized, lenses, which has a special coating. This coating is ideal for people that are outdoors frequently, particularly around water or the snow.
Tips to Buy Designer Glasses for Less
The cheapest designer eyewear does not have prescription lenses. However, this does not make sense for patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. Nor does it make sense for patients with presbyopia (age-related farsightedness) or cataracts.
If you rely on glasses for clear vision, it only makes sense to have prescription lenses secured to your designer eyewear. This applies to glasses and sunglasses.
In this case, your most affordable option is to purchase designer eyewear that is on sale. Older models may be discounted to clear room for newer frame styles.
Having your lenses made without any special coating will also reduce the overall cost of your eyewear. However, your eye health is important; and with proper care, your glasses can last for many years. For these reasons, choosing the right lenses is critical to maintaining your vision.
