While many other ophthalmology practices outsource prescription lenses to an off-site laboratory, our on-site lab utilizes advanced technology to provide patients with personalized designer eyewear. Here, we discuss some of the many benefits of our on-site optical lab, including faster turnaround time and premium-quality glasses.
Faster Turnaround Time
Typically, when a patient orders prescription glasses from an ophthalmological center, they choose their frames and lenses, place an order, and then leave the practice without their new glasses. That is because many practices use off-site labs that take days or weeks to create and finalize their patients’ prescription eyewear.
At GW Eye Associates, most glasses are created at our on-site optical lab, which significantly reduces the turnaround time for a pair of glasses. Rather than waiting weeks (or longer) for prescription eyewear to be complete, our patients usually receive their glasses the day of their appointment.
Easy Repairs and Adjustments
Our on-site lab is not only used to create new prescription glasses, but also to adjust or repair a patient’s existing frames and lenses. If the patient’s prescription is slightly off, the lenses have been scratched, the frames don’t fit properly, a screw has become loose, or any other issues have developed, our technicians can fix the problem on-site.
As with the creation of new glasses, most repairs and adjustments can be made same-day. If a patient is undergoing a routine eye exam, repairs and adjustments can be made while they are at their appointment, so their glasses are ready to go when their exam is complete.
Fewer Appointments
Creating a patient’s glasses on-site and performing repairs while a patient undergoes an eye exam means they don’t have to schedule a secondary appointment to return to our office and pick up their glasses. Fewer appointments benefit our patients by saving them time, saving them money on gas, and leaving them with more time for other obligations or activities.

The technicians at our on-site optical lab utilize the most advanced technology to create high-quality eyeglasses. Patients can enjoy the convenience of same-day glasses, repairs, and adjustments without sacrificing the quality of the work.
At our lab, we offer a wide selection of designer frames, including name brands like Tiffany, Oakley, and Ray-Ban®. The frames can accommodate regular prescription lenses as well as prescription sunglass lenses. Technicians use the Santinelli® optical lens edger to ensure that lenses fit securely in their frames, allowing patients to have confidence about how their glasses look and feel.
